BURBANK (CBS) — A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday on a $70 million project to establish 4.4 miles of carpool lanes on two Los Angeles freeways.

The new lanes will be on the Golden State (5) Freeway between Buena Vista Street in Burbank and the Hollywood (170) Freeway in Sun Valley.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2014, and more than half of the cost will be paid by federal stimulus funds.

Caltrans officials noted that an increasing number of motorists are using carpool lanes.

Caltrans also plans to make improvements on other lanes of the freeway.

Duh!

They should not make carpool lanes. They should make express lanes just like they have in Las Vegas. People that are not going to be exiting the freeway in that area can drive in the express lane and move straight through. They won’t be in the way of cars that are entering or exiting the freeway along the express lane route.

Please !! Just fix the holes in the road Burbank has now There is a pothole just off the Buena Vista offramp a foot in diameter and at least 4” deep….

Flat out had a judge in traffic court say that the state of california is broke and their resolution for their budget crisis is us, Referring to the courtroom people. He went on to suggest we write our elected official, being as he was not able to reduce fee’s beyond a certain point (Which was reflected on a board in the Courtroom) Egypt, Lybia… We need an uprising to fight this hogwash…

Carpool lanes are counter productive. They take a lane away from general traffic flow and cause the remaining lanes to become crowded thus promoting greater danger of accidents and greatly slowing traffic in the remaining lanes. If you want to improve traffic flow, add more lanes don’t take them away.

Speaking of traffic court, went to court in Culver City before an administrator. Culver City’s finest said I made an illegal left turn exiting a parking lot. I explained that I made a right turn, went 50 feet or so, and then made a u-turn. Decision:”I’m not sure what is is, but you are guilty of something” When I demanded the transcript, it was “conveniently” misplaced. Was then offered a second shot at traffic school or repeat hearing. Realizing it would be the same outcome, paid the fine and went to traffic school to keep it off my DMV record. Great System!!!
