LA Sheriff’s Helicopter Damaged During Training

MORENO VALLEY (AP) — A Los Angeles County sheriff’s helicopter has been damaged during a training flight.

The pilot and co-pilot of the A-Star 350 helicopter weren’t hurt.

Sheriff’s Capt. Mike Parker says in a news release that the helicopter was damaged at about 4:29 p.m. Wednesday during a training sequence simulating hydraulic failure. The flight training was taking place at the March Air Reserve Base in the Moreno Valley area of Riverside County.

    The A-Star is a sensitive bird with the hydraulics working. When you turn them off it is very difficult to fly, but the training is necessary to teach pilots how to bring the aircraft back safely after a hydraulic system failure.
