2 Riverside County Men Injured In Crash That Killed CHP Officer

RIVERSIDE (CBS)  — Officials said Wednesday that two Riverside County men were injured in a crash that claimed the life of a California Highway Patrol officer in Northern California.

CHP Officer Thomas Adams, 24, died instantly in the head-on collision on state Route 101, near Piercy, in northern Mendocino County, according to the CHP.

Adams was northbound on the 101 about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday when, “for reasons still under investigation,” he allowed his patrol unit to drift onto the opposite side of the highway. The 2009 Ford Crown Victoria collided with a 2004 Toyota Tundra pickup being driven by Jeff Kidd, 39, of Perris, according to a CHP statement.

Kidd and his front seat passenger, 31-year-old Jared Geldhofbond of Riverside, suffered minor injuries. The men were treated at Jerold Phelps Community Hospital in Garberville and have since been released, according to the CHP.

The agency’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team was looking into the circumstances of the crash.

We coudl save $2.9 billion each year by eliminating the CHP. Of that, only $193 million is spent inspecting truck fleets and operating the roadside inspection stations. This could be accomplished by Caltrans personnel. Shut down the CHP and let the counties patrol their roads as they see fit. Give some of the saved money to the counties for this purpose and eliminate the rest from the budget.

That is an extremely creative approach. Write a Letter to Gov. Jerry Brown

Basically your an idiot. This young man lost his life and all you can think about is the saving created by eliminating a Department.

Did you ever think that type of thinking could have saved this oficers life? Its Negetive pukes like you that keep us all down

    • Ed rooney

How much can we save by eliminating you and your family?

  • Scott Stevenson

Eliminating the department would have saved this person’s life and prevented the injuries to the others. But if the man fell asleep, he fell asleep. He could have hurt someone even without being a member of CHP

you must be an idiot. Do you know how Caltrans operates they will waste a lot more money than the CHP. god bless this officer and the two men that were injured.

  • Justice for the CHP

The two people should be charged with murder on a police officer.
The person with the badge is NEVER at fault.
Therefore this must be a well conceived plot to kill the chp officer
