Man Convicted Of Home Invasion Robberies That Targeted Elderly Women

LOS ANGELES (CBS)  —  A 55-year-old man was convicted Tuesday for a string of 2008 home invasion robberies that targeted elderly women in West LA and Santa Monica.

The Los Angeles Superior Court jury deliberated about a day before finding 55-year-old Jeffery Wayne Langford guilty of 21 counts, including first- degree burglary, residential robbery, assault, criminal threats and false imprisonment, according to Deputy District Attorney Belle Chen.

Jurors acquitted him of a dozen other counts and deadlocked on two remaining charges.

The case involved older women -- with the youngest being 60 at the time and the oldest in her late 80s, according to Chen.

"I think he picked his victims carefully," the prosecutor said after the jury's verdict.

Langford's attorney could not be reached for immediate comment.

Langford is facing a potential life prison term, with sentencing set for March 23 before Judge James Dabney.
