LA Officials Unveil Plan To Send Layoff Notices
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles school officials have unveiled a plan that would see thousands of teachers get preliminary layoff notices.
The plan, unveiled Friday, would see notices sent to more than 4,000 teachers to warn them their jobs may not be available next year.

The Los Angeles Unified School District is facing a budget gap of about $400 million and the board is considering mass layoffs as a worst-case scenario to bridge the shortfall.
Most of the affected employees would receive notices no later than March 15. Another notice would be sent in June if their jobs are eliminated.
The board is set to vote on the measure Tuesday.
Forty-five campuses would be exempted because a recent court ruling found some under-performing schools had been impacted by previous layoffs.
