Janice Hahn Will Seek House Seat To Be Vacated By Harman

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles city councilwoman says she'll seek a U.S. House seat expected to be vacated by Democratic Rep. Jane Harman.

Harman announced Monday she plans to resign to become the president of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

Councilwoman Janice Hahn says in a statement she'll run for the seat in the coastal 36th Congressional District, which includes Venice Beach and the Port of Los Angeles.

The 58-year-old Hahn -- a Democrat -- is the sister of former Los Angeles mayor James Hahn and the daughter of Los Angeles County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, who died in 1997.

She ran unsuccessfully for the House seat in 1998, and was a candidate for lieutenant governor last year.
