DUI Suspect Crashes Into Winnetka Home During Pursuit

WINNETKA (CBS) — A suspected drunken driver was hospitalized in police custody Friday after his car crashed into a Winnetka home at the end of a police chase, authorities said.

Police tried to pull the driver over on the 101 Freeway at 12:30 a.m., Sgt. Bob Schlesinger of the Los Angeles police Topanga Station said.

About 30 minutes later, the car crashed into the front door of a home at Tampa Avenue and Valerio Street, Schlesinger said.

The driver, who suffered unspecified injuries, was taken away by an ambulance crew with a police escort.

Residents of the home were sleeping at the time, but a woman ran outside thinking there had been an earthquake.

No one in the home was injured.

The driver was identified as a parolee, Schlesinger said.
