Arrests Made In Shooting of Long Beach Officer

LONG BEACH (CBS) — Two men were in custody Friday in connection with a shooting last weekend that wounded a Long Beach police gang detective, authorities said.

Erick Sianez and David Salvador Silva, both 19, appeared in a Long Beach courtroom Friday afternoon on charges of attempted murder, among others. Their arrangnment was postponed to Feb. 24.

According to Long Beach police, the shooting occurred about 11 p.m. Saturday near MacArthur Park, on Anaheim Street at Mahanna Avenue.

The uniformed detective was patrolling in an unmarked car with another detective when he was shot once in the upper body by someone in another vehicle, officials said. He was taken to the hospital by his partner.

The wounded detective is a seven-year veteran of the police department who's in his 30s. On Sunday, officials said that the bullet missed the officer's protective vest, and "fortunately, the nature of the injury is that he's going to be OK down the road."
