INDIO (CBS) — Police have arrested a 27-year-old man who allegedly attacked his mother at their Indio home leaving her hospitalized in critical condition.

Daniel Castro allegedly attacked his mom just after 7 a.m. Monday, when a domestic dispute between the two escalated. Castro had left the house in the 46600 block of Baltimore Street by the time officers arrived, Indio Police Department spokesman Ben Guitron said.

He said the 6-foot, 200-pound suspect would be booked on suspicion of attempted murder.

Initially it was believed Castro used a knife but Guitron now says, “it appears a weapon was not used.”

Castro has previous drug-related offenses.

The victim’s age and name were not released.
