LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A 20-year-old man who allegedly killed his 10-month-old daughter during a fight with his wife is being held on $5 million bail after his arrest in Mexico.

Jose Tulio Deras, who is in custody at the sheriff’s South Los Angeles station, is expected to be arraigned Thursday in Downey Superior Court.

His daughter, Valerie, died of blunt force trauma injuries Saturday when Deras and his wife were fighting at their home in the 5100 block of McCallum Avenue in South Gate, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s Capt. Mike Parker.

Deras, a Salvadoran national, fled to Mexico and he was detained Monday in Mexico City, Lt. Dave Coleman of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau said.

Mexican officials flew Deras to Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday. He was then turned over to Customs and Border Protection officers, U.S. Marshals, and Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies.

As I said before, running to Mexico no longer saves you. D417 I think you are the stupid one that needs to check your information STUPID!!!

    1. D417 says:

Well you’re just rude. As I said, the last time I checked, Mexico was refusing to extradite anyone that faced over 50 years. I didn’t say it was fact, but apparently you can’t read. I recall a heck of a struggle with Mexico trying to get Armando macias back after he murdered a cop. Mexico didn’t want to extradite him because he was facing the death penalty.

If you are the jailer for this trash, please inform your nearest convict. Thank you!

  5. jo says:

you are partially correct about mexico not handing criminals over. They wont hand them over if they will get the death penalty for what they did. The U.S. has to promise that they will only get prison time.Doesnt matter how long in prison. They just cant get the death penalty. But i agree with Once Again for the punishment. “Do unto others..”

  6. valgal says:

It seems everyone agrees on what his punishment shuld be . I just dont understand why the majority cant rule!

    1. bdj says:

The concept of majority rule is fine for elections, but here in the USA, a person is innocent until proven guilt. If found guilt, he will be punished. The issue is most people will not like what the law may allow. We must let the judicial system do its job, even if we disagree with the verdict, and not become a vigilante state, or we are no better then Jose Tulio Deras.

Another South of the border trash who is illegally here

  8. duh says:

This would have never been a death penalty case, as it was a ‘crime of passion’. Prosecutors may originally seek life with parole, but bargain it down to 25 to life with a guilty plea.

  9. Josh Butts says:

If Mexico doesn’t hand over criminals cause they might get the death penalty then that should be fine. If CA gets the criminal they won’t give him the death penalty. He’ll just spend life in prison. No justice in that.
