FBI Reportedly Conducting Maywood Bribery Probe

MAYWOOD (AP) — The FBI is reportedly conducting a Maywood bribery investigation involving an engineering contractor, city officials and envelopes filled with cash.

Ex-Maywood officials have reportedly told the Los Angeles Times that the FBI's three-year investigation has been looking into allegations of improper payments by AAE Inc. to obtain municipal contracts.

Former Maywood building and planning director David Mango tells the newspaper in a story published Friday that he worked as part of an FBI undercover operation in 2008 and he twice received envelopes containing thousands of dollars in cash from an AAE executive.

Mango says AAE wanted to obtain city contracts.

AAE lawyer Michael Carras denies the allegations and says he's unaware of the FBI investigation.

The FBI refuses to confirm or deny the investigation.
