Ex-Police Officer Charged With Raping, Shaving Man

REDONDO BEACH (AP) — A former Southern California reserve police officer has been charged with drugging and raping a friend before shaving the unconscious man's body hair.

Redondo Beach police say 55-year-old John Haig Marshall was arrested on New Year's Day on a felony charge of penetration with a foreign object while using a drug. He posted $100,000 bail and will be arraigned Jan. 26.

The Torrance Daily Breeze says Marshall was originally arrested in October 2009 after a 29-year-old man told officers he was drugged and sexually assaulted in Marshall's shower.

Investigators say the men were drinking buddies.

Further investigation led to charges and Marshall's arrest Saturday.

Marshall's lawyer Jeffrey Gray says taking a shower together was consensual and there was no sexual penetration.
