Late Christmas Eve Hours For Last-Minute Shoppers
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Shoppers in a mad dash to finish buying Christmas presents for their loved ones can look to a few stores that will keep the lights on a little later.
Several big retailers are keeping extended hours on Christmas Eve to accommodate procrastinators who waited till the very last minute, a boon to retailers who are enjoying a surprisingly successful holiday season.
The National Retail Federation predicts that holiday spending will reach $451.5 billion this year, up 3.3 percent over last year. That would be the biggest year-over-year increase since 2006, and the largest total since spending hit a record $452.8 billion in 2007. A strong finish could even give 2010 the crown.
Last-minute shoppers, most of whom are stereotypically male, can look to these retailers for late closing hours:
Toys R Us, 10 p.m.
Walmart, 8 p.m. in most areas.
Kohl's, 6 p.m.
Target, 7 p.m.
Best Buy, 5 p.m.
Kmart, 10 p.m.
Some locations have different hours, so call ahead to verify.
