Rain Damages Rose Hills Memorial Park And Mortuary

WHITTIER (CBS) — Erosion caused by runoff in Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary in Whittier may have exposed two graves.

Cemetery workers set up tents over the affected areas Wednesday afternoon, according to broadcast images from helicopters.

"The ground is saturated, and we're obviously experiencing erosion in that area of the park," Nick Clark said.

The 100-year-old, roughly 1,400-acre cemetery on Workman Mill Road closed about 8 a.m. due to weather-related problems, Clark said, adding that roads within the cemetery were apparently damaged and branches were falling from trees.

A hotline has been set up for those concerned about whether the remains of their loved ones are in the affected area. Call (866) 208-0529.
