Board May Vote On USC's Purchase Of Land Under Coliseum

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The Board of Directors for Exposition Park and the California Science Center may vote Tuesday on USC's purchase of the land under the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena.

The state offered to sell the land to the university, which has expressed interest in the purchase to help alleviate daytime parking shortages, in an attempt to ease its budget deficit.

University officials say the negotiations would take several months to complete will be subject to approval by the incoming Brown administration.

The proposed sale has drawn opposition from some residents of Exposition Park, who have criticized the negotiation process, saying it lacks openness, and have questioned what it would mean for the future of the park.
