(CBS/Evan Brunell) – So much for James Loney being available on the trade market.

Despite a lack of power, Steve Henson of Yahoo! Sports says that Loney will not be traded because the options in free agency to replace him would be too expensive.

Loney hit .267/.329/.395 in 648 plate appearances, lousy numbers for a first baseman although he provides solid defense. The Dodgers will have to hope for a bounceback to at least 2009 levels where he hit .281/.357/.399, but at this point it is clear Loney won’t ever hit for home run power. He’s got two years of arbitration left and could potentially become available in trade next season once the club sheds the Rafael Furcal and Jonathan Broxton contracts, which total $20 million that could open up the Dodgers to finding a new first baseman.
