Storm Blows Into Southern California, Rain Expected Overnight

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A winter storm is blowing into Southern California and is expected to dump about a half-inch of rain overnight, starting Sunday night.

The storm's first moisture came in the form of drizzle throughout the Southland at about noon. The sprinkles were heaviest in the western end of the San Fernando Valley, according to California Highway Patrol reports. However, a pair of car crashes on the Ventura (101) Freeway were blamed on factors other than wet roads.

There is a 50 percent chance of rain forecast for Sunday night.

The storm front is relatively warm, and overnight lows in the metro area will be mostly in the 50s, though some valley areas will dip into the 40s for a few hours.

Snow levels will start out around 7,000, then drop to about 6,500 feet overnight, according to the NWS. Four inches of snow may accumulate at those levels.

A 30 percent chance of showers is forecast Monday, with partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid 60s expected by the afternoon.
