3 Killed In Small Airplane Crash In Newport Beach
NEWPORT BEACH (AP) — Southern California authorities have identified three men killed when a small airplane crashed into Upper Newport Bay during the weekend.
Coroner’s officials identified the pilot-owner as 58-year-old Charles Alfred Chambers, a real estate agent from Palos Verdes Estates.
The passengers were 63-year-old Russell Urban of Palos Verdes Estates and 44-year-old Sean Kelley of Hermosa Beach.
A crane lifted the upside-down Beechcraft Musketeer from the shallow estuary on Monday. The Orange County Register says federal investigators will examine it to determine the cause of the crash.
The 1968 plane was flying from Mexico to Torrance when it went down shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday. Authorities say it may have been low on fuel.
