Coroner Identifies Woman Killed In Compton Stabbing

COMPTON (CBS) — A coroner's lieutenant Sunday released the name of a 32-year-old woman stabbed to death in Compton this weekend.

 

The victim was identified as Shamida Joyce Ward of Compton, Coroner's Lt. Joe Bale said.

Kamiala Dennis is accused of stabbing Ward to death following a fight at around 8:50 a.m. Saturday in the 700 block of West Compton Boulevard, Deputy Bill Brauberger of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

"The victim and suspect were involved in a physical altercation at the location," Brauberger said. "After the assault, the suspect ran south on Wilmington Avenue and out of view."

Brauberger said authorities located Dennis nearby at Tucker Park.

Dennis was booked at Compton sheriff's station on suspicion of murder and held on $1 million bail.
