Coroner: Remains Are Those Of Missing College Student

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The coroner has positively identified remains found in northern Los Angeles County as those of a Fullerton College student who vanished 10 years ago.

Brea police detective Lt. Dale Carlson told the Orange County Register the coroner was able to identify the remains of 20-year-old Lynsie Ekelund earlier this week by using dental records.

However, Carlson says a cause of death could not be determined because of the condition of the remains.

Authorities say they were led to the grave in Santa Clarita Canyon after an acquaintance told them he strangled Ekelund and buried her there.

Christopher McAmis is in jail pending a Nov. 30 arraignment.

Ekelund took a trip to San Diego with a group of friends, including McAmis, on Feb. 16, 2001.
