Hand Of Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia Enshrined
SANTA BARBARA (AP) — Grateful Dead founder Jerry Garcia's guitar-picking hand with a missing portion of his middle finger has been enshrined with a bronze sculpture at the Santa Barbara Bowl.
The sculpture is part of the newly named Jerry Garcia Glen at the wooded entry bowl renovations paid with a $1 million gift from the Brittingham Family Foundation.
Garcia performed at the concert venue and the sculpture by artist Tom White is designed as a tribute to the musician.
Capital Campaign Cabinet foundation chair and self-described Deadhead Scott Brittingham told the Santa Barbara News-Press on Tuesday that Garcia would have appreciated the glen, which has been rehabilitated with indigenous vegetation and a new path along an enhanced nature creek bed.
