LONG BEACH (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard is cleaning up a fuel spill from a ship that sent an unknown amount of oil into Long Beach harbor.
Lt. j.g. Steven Lafrenz says a bulk carrier was refueling at anchorage around 10 p.m. Sunday when one of its tanks overflowed and some fuel oil went into the water.
Lafrenz says a protective boom was placed around the ship and about 15 boats were busy cleaning up the spill Monday afternoon.
There’s no word on when the work might be completed.
Lafrenz says the spill hasn’t disrupted traffic in the Port of Long Beach.
