Bell Seeks Council Quorum To Set Recall Election

BELL (AP) — The city council of a scandal-plagued Los Angeles suburb will meet to schedule a recall election in which angry residents could vote them out of office.

At least three of the four remaining Bell City Council members must attend the meeting Monday night to reach a quorum and conduct city business.

Three of the members are among eight current and former Bell officials charged with looting the city out of more than $5 million to inflate their salaries and benefits.

Residents gathered enough signatures to put an initiative on the ballot to oust Mayor Oscar Hernandez, Vice Mayor Teresa Jacobo and Councilman George Mirabal, who was released on bail last week.
