Soldier From LA Fatally Injured In Afghanistan

HUNTINGTON PARK (CBS) — A soldier from Huntington Park has died after suffering injuries last week while on duty in Afghanistan, a Pentagon spokesman said Sunday.

The Department of Defense announced that Spc. Diego A. Solorzano-Valdovinos, 24, died Friday at an Army hospital in Landstuhl, Germany.

Solorzano-Valdovinos was wounded Wednesday when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire in the Yahya Khel district, the DOD said.

He had been assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506nd Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), at Fort Campbell, Ky.
