Registration Push Yields 300,000 New Democratic Voters
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The Democratic Party has won – at least, in terms of voter registration.
The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk is still finalizing its tally, but an early count shows more than a half-million new voters have registered in L.A. County since the 2006 election. County clerk offices stayed open until midnight Monday to accommodate more than 17,000 last-minute registrations.
A chart on Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky's site shows that more than half of the new registrations that were sent in in time for the Nov. 2 election belong to Democratic voters.
However, the same chart shows another trend. Second only to the growth in Democratic voters is the growth in decline-to-state voters, which grew 20.5 percent since 2006.
New Republican party voter registrations remained mostly the same, with a decline of 25 new registrations since 2006.
