Texas Man Arrested In Deadly Long Beach Shooting

LONG BEACH (AP) — A Texas man has been arrested for the shooting death of a man and the wounding of a 16-year-old boy inside a Long Beach home.

Police say 26-year-old Elbert Haskins, whose hometown in Texas hasn't been disclosed, is in the Long Beach Jail where he was booked for investigation of murder and attempted murder. He was arrested Sunday and is being held without bail.

Police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt told the Long Beach Press-Telegram that Haskins got into an argument and shot 38-year-old John Evans of San Pedro and a teenager. Evans died at a hospital and the teen is expected to survive.

The nature of the dispute hasn't been determined.
