WESTMINSTER (CBS) — Authorities are accusing a Long Beach police officer of driving under the influence while off-duty in Garden Grove.

Eddie Sanchez, 30, faces up to six months in jail if convicted of misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood-alcohol level of .15 percent or more, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Sanchez allegedly left a Long Beach bar about 4:30 p.m. on May 24, got into his 2003 Nissan Altima and was driving erratically before he stopped at a red light.

According to prosecutors, Sanchez then failed to go after the light changed to green.

Several drivers behind him honked and one of the motorists eventually walked up tohis car, reached inside and turned off the ignition, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Sanchez’s blood-alcohol level was measured at .16, twice the legal limit, according to prosecutors.

There were probably over a hunderd people arrested in Southern CA for DUI last night. Several of these were arrested after having been involved in a traffic collision, yet the media picks and discriminates on the lone off-duty cop stopped at an intersection. The media needs to quit discriminating, bashing and convicting the lone off-duty cop who was passed out (stopped). If you’re not going to report on the others, then don’t just report on the one.

As one officer told me as I was getting a BS ticket: “I’m only doing my job” Well now I guess the media is doing there’s.

I don't get it

What? How could he be passed out with a 0.16 reading? There must have been something else in his system.

Once again the media picks on a cop, who is human like the rest of the world, they make mistakes too. But how many other people were arrested that night or week for DUI in the area? I doubt he was the only one. Must have been a slow news day.

The L.A.P.D. sadly has a history of corruption .The now canceled Television Show The Shield was based on the corruption at the Rampart division. L.A.P.D. used political influence to make many changes in the show and I will point some off them out..

The L.A.P.D.was notoriety during the Glory Days of Hollywood with much influence of the mob was at its worst.. I do not remember all the names of the many Police Chiefs other then Chief Parker started to clean up the L.A.P.D. .

The original name of the show was Rampart . The L.A.P.D. made them change many items about the show . The uniforms they where made to where there badges on the right side of the shirts. The studio cars you never saw the complete side off the front doors as the L.A.P.D. did not want there logo shown on the cars. Later in the season you see the words ” Farming ton District ” This is also on the badges..

Do I think they went out of there way with the Long Beach officer ? I do not know . Many story’s on the Shield where also based on the LB.P.D. It is a rumor that the Chacter ” Vic Mac key ” was a Long Beach Officer.

Many depts. have good decent officers. It is well known that all rank and file officers where angered that Mark Furhman took the 5th amendment so he did not have to testify. He is the first officer that ever took the 5th . It is in the book outrageous..

I think the words where removed that said to Protect and Serve. This part of Los Angeles is always refereed as The Farming ton District .

The first season you never see the cars in a full shot. You do not see the L.A.P.D. did not want there logo on the car doors. The words to protect and serve was also removed . There will always be rotten officers in large and smaller depts.

Yes no one is perfect but everyone is responsible for their own actions. The people who choose to go into these positions know it going in. I respect the men and women who put their lives on the line to do this job and I despise the ones like Sanchez who give the rest a bad name. Turn in your badge and gun Sanchez! Maybe you can still get a job at mall security!!!
