Carlsbad Elementary School To Reopen After Shooting

CARLSBAD (AP) — Police say a San Diego-area elementary where a man fired at children on a crowded playground and injured two girls will reopen on Monday.

Carlsbad police Lt. Kelly Cain told the North County Times on Sunday that police have finished their investigation of the site and have turned Kelly Elementary in Carlsbad back over to school officials.

Cain says one of the two girls, ages 6 and 7, who were shot in the arms Friday was released from Rady Children's Hospital, but did not know about the other.

He says the suspect in the shooting, 41-year-old Brendan O'Rourke, would not make any statements to police before being taken to jail and detectives have not tried to interview him again over the weekend.

It was not clear whether O'Rourke had retained an attorney.
