3rd Arrest Made In Murder Of Pregnant Woman

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Officials announced Tuesday the arrest of a third suspect in the murder of pregnant woman in Mid City on May 5.

The alleged killer was taken into custodyby federal marshals  in Atlanta, according to authorities.

Javier Angulo Romero, 19, became the third person to be arrested in the death of 26-year-old Jana Collins, who was about four-months pregnant when she was shot while sitting in a vehicle with a few other people in the 1900 block of South Corning Street, Detective Mike Pelletier said.

Romero has been charged with murder and four other felonies in the killing, along with Cecil Levi Laurent, 23, and Asfaw Abebe, 24, who were arrested shortly after the attack, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Police said they believed Collins' husband was the intended target.

He had just gotten out of the car, when a gunman got of a sport utility vehicle and fired multiple shots.

Pelletier said detectives planned to travel to Atlanta tomorrow to bring Romero back to Los Angeles to face justice. Romero apparently fled the area within days of the killing.
