18-Year-Old Rookie Expected To Open Season With Ducks

ANAHEIM (AP) -- The Anaheim Ducks have assigned left wing Josh Green and center Maxime Macenauer to their AHL affiliate in Syracuse.

The Ducks' moves Monday indicate 18-year-old defenseman Cam Fowler likely has made the opening-night roster. Fowler was the 12th overall pick in last June's draft, but has impressed coach Randy Carlyle with his mature play.

Fowler grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, where Anaheim opens the season Friday. The Ducks have nine games to decide whether to keep Fowler for the season or return him to his junior team.

The Ducks have 26 players on their roster, but three are injured, including defenseman Toni Lydman and right wing Joffrey Lupul.

Anaheim has kept seven healthy defensemen, including Fowler and 20-year-old Luca Sbisa.
