Brown, Whitman To Appear At Maria Shriver's Women's Conference

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Gubernatorial rivals Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman have agreed to participate in Maria Shriver's annual women's conference in Long Beach, where they will join the sitting governor to discuss California's future.

The Oct. 26 event was announced Wednesday in a statement by California's first lady and will come one week before the general election. It will be moderated by Matt Lauer, host of the "Today" show on NBC.

Brown and Whitman have criticized Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and the state Legislature for their handling of the state's fiscal crisis budget. California this year broke its record for the longest the Legislature has gone without approving a state budget.
