You may not believe your eyes. War Horse is the winner of five 2011 Tony Awards, including Best Play, and it has been seen by more than two million people worldwide. Time Magazine dubbed it "a landmark theater event." The show — a tale of courage, loyalty and friendship — is on stage at Segerstrom Center for the Arts through Feb. 3. If you haven't heard about it, it features phenomenal life-sized puppets that bring breathing, galloping, charging horses onto the stage. Some insider facts include: it took a full nine months to complete just one horse puppet; all puppets were painstakingly made by hand and the show includes 18 puppets (including horses Joey and Topthorn), as well as a goose, two swallows and two crows. Also, the tank is the largest piece of scenery in the show - six people are needed to operate it, and it, too, is considered a puppet. Tickets start at $20.
