The hottest ticket in town may just be the wettest: Random International's Rain Room (2012) is an immersive environment now installed at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). Although it's currently sold out, the exhibit runs through March 6th, and new blocks of tickets to this timed event are assigned every few weeks, so stay alert. What is it? Perpetual indoor rain in a hauntingly dark environment. The water pauses when a human body is detected. A similar experience to dancing under a waterfall that stops when you move, the installation offers visitors the illusion that they can literally control rain. The falling water is lit in such a way as to suggest shooting stars, it is altogether an other-worldly experience.

Mirror, mirror on the wall...what's the fairest exhibit of them all? Possibly the Mirror Room at the gorgeous new Broad museum located in DTLA. Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Mirrored Room is a mirror-lined chamber that holds the illusion of an endless light experience - LED lights reflected into dazzling mirrors. Each visitor enters solo, and tickets are timed but free. General admission ticket holders can reserve a visit for approximately 45 seconds, and will require a separate free timed ticket, which general admission ticket holders will be able to reserve after arrival at the museum.

Renovated recently, The Petersen Automotive Museum is one of the hippest museums in town. With a snazzy faux-red sports car of a museum facade, the stellar collection of classic cars at the Petersen has been thoroughly reinvigorated. Current must-see exhibition: The Cars Mechanical Institute, a partnership with Disney/Pixar inspired by the animated film, Cars. Here visitors are immersed in interactive stations learning about the mechanical systems that make cars work, painting and designing virtual cars and participating in the CARSpad Experience, an iPad game moving through galleries on the museum's second floor.
