During this age of consumerism that helped contribute to the build-up of trash currently in landfills and the ocean, "Transcending Trash: The Art of Recycling" provides a creative take on what is typically considered garbage. Examining the materialistic lifestyle that has become common in our society, the exhibit shows the transformation of items including bottles, plastic and bags to art work that is appealing to the eye, yet disturbing. With more than 10 contributing artists, this display illustrates various styles of innovative art with a powerful environmental message. Artist Lita Albuquerque will be showcasing her renowned environmental art this fall at the Laguna Art Museum. There will be a video shown with sound accompaniment highlighting her artistic examination of "mapping, the cosmos and connectivity." Images of the North and South Pole will be projected in the exhibit area to provide guests with visual features as well. Additionally, during Laguna Art Museum's Art and Nature Festival on November 8, a special performance will be incorporated into this display.

"The Art Of Stem Cells"

"The Art of Stem Cells" combines art and local cutting-edge science, thereby providing visitors with a unique educational exhibit. Focusing on the stem cell research being conducted at the University of California Irvine, guests can see artists' perspectives on the progression of this research. Some of the topics presented examine how stem cell research is affecting those with Spinal Cord Injury, Parkinson's, Traumatic Brain Injury, Huntington's, Diabetes, Alzheimer's and Cancer. Starting September 7, 2014 until January 4, 2015, Orange County Museum of Art will be showcasing "The Avant Garde Collection" that investigates what was considered experimental art during the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and early 2000s. Beginning with exploring the infamous pop-culture illustrated in the 60s and progressing to technological and societal changes of each decade, this display highlights how current events and influential figures affected the art developed during each time period. After analyzing the various works of art all derived from Orange County Museum of Art's collection, you may notice that some artists were ahead of their time in sociological and creative thinking.

Award-winning artist Elizabeth Turk will be sharing her work at Laguna Art Museum from October 12, 2014 through January 25, 2015. The exhibit will be composed of mixed-media art varying from some of Turk's new work and older projects analyzing "time, matter, and space." The accomplished artist has specifically progressed the use of marble materials in artwork and received distinguished awards including the Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship in 2011, the Barnett and Annalee Newman Foundation Fellowship in 2010 and the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship.
