Costume season has arrived, and Halloween just wouldn't be Halloween without your four-legged buddy. Over the years, dressing up the family pet has become a trend that brings the whole family together, especially when Halloween events take place during the day and have a family-friendly vibe. This year's top pet costume trends include dressing up your dog as human food and condiment items such as Heinz ketchup bottles and Tootsie Rolls. Join fellow pet owners by celebrating the season of witches and jack-o-lanterns at Los Angeles' fun Halloween events that both you and your pet will enjoy.

This Halloween, help Haute Dogs break the world record for the number of costumed dogs in a parade. With last year's number of dogs parading around reaching more than 400, the Howl'oween parade is determined to beat that number and raise money for local charities. From ballerina bulldogs to policeman chihuahuas, the 12th annual Halloween parade raises thousands of dollars for animal welfare programs in Southern California. Haute Dog will even let humans join in the fun and play dress up too.

If handing out candy in your neighborhood is the plan for Halloween eve, you and your furry, four-legged friends may still celebrate the season of ghouls and goblins. Beginning Oct. 10, Sherman Oaks-based Rufus and Delilah Dog Walking and Pet Sitting is hosting a free Halloween costume contest via its Facebook page. With a few simple clicks, pet owners may upload their pets' costume pics with captions onto Rufus and Delilah's Facebook page. The top three winners will receive pet prizes, which may include dog and/or cat toys, healthy pet treats or a credit toward a weekly walk or pet-sitting visit.
