Biko, one of Mexico City's most well known restaurants, is the perfect place to sample the country's high-end cuisine. Specializing in blending native Mexican foods with Spanish foods, Biko's menu speaks to the area's tumultuous history of colonialism. In fact, both of Biko's head chefs, Bruno Oteiza and Mikel Alonso, were born in Spain. The restaurant has a classy, clean vibe featuring white tablecloths and brown leather furniture. Biko's signature dish is a seaside tower of crab, tomato and capers, with a Mexican pork jowl served with a tomato emulsion and chicharrones.

El Pialadero de Guadalajara is loved by locals who highly recommend the torta ahogada. Torta ahogada is a traditional dish from Guadalajara, a city more than 500 km northwest of Mexico City, but it has become favorite dish of Mexicans across the country. The torta ahogada is typically filled with fried pork in a dried chili pepper sauce with onions, avocado and radishes.
