Beachwood BBQ and Brewery
210 E. 3rd St.
Long Beach, CA 90802
This place is a local favorite and the 2012 World Beer Cup Gold Award Winner for Golden or Blond Ales. But the beer of the season this year is the Alpha Bomb. It’s packed with hops with some pretty potent aromas and flavors, so expect a beer for true beer lovers. Alpha Bomb is made with a hint of light caramel malt and an experimental variety of hops to create its unique aroma and even more unique flavor.

Strand Brewing Co.
23520 Telo Ave.
Torrance, CA 90505
As of one of LA’s fastest-growing microbreweries, Strand Brewing Co. has quickly become a local favorite with its flagship pale ale, 24th Street. It’s refreshingly delicious with a nice floral scent, a hint of fruity bitterness and a well-balanced malt bill. For premium, hand-crafted beer straight from the source, visit its tap room. When the tap room is closed, it’s filled with branded kegs from the floor to the ceiling in preparation for weekly deliveries, so check hours before heading here.
El Segundo Brewing Company
140 Main St.
El Segundo, CA 90245
This local microbrewery just celebrated its first anniversary with the introduction of its first double India pale ale, a limited, specialty release until the fall season with the start of LA Beer Week. Said to be named after a landing strip at the LAX airport, the Two 5 Left DIPA special occasion craft beer is a lean, dry and hoppy beer with 8.2 percent alcohol, higher than any of its other beers. Rumor has it visitors are already asking for this beer by name.
Golden Road Brewing
5410 W. San Fernando Road
Los Angeles, CA 90039
Golden Road Brewing doesn’t necessarily maintain a seasonal schedule for brewing beer, but it’s always brewing limited-release craft beers for special occasions … and whenever the brewers feel particularly inspired. This fall brings with it the release of the Burning Bush Smoked IPA, a limited release taking advantage of seasonal ingredients. It’s a deep malty beer with a unique smokey character that pairs nicely with grilled foods.
Eagle Rock Brewery
3056 Roswell St.
Los Angeles, CA 90065
Eagle Rock Brewery is one of the longest-standing breweries operating in Los Angeles at more than 60 years old. Its flagship beer is Solidarity Black Mild Ale. Despite its dark color, it’s light in body, featuring subtle hints of coffee, chocolate and a little bit of smoke. This microbrewery is attached to a public tap room where guests are encouraged to bring their own food — Eagle Rock doesn’t serve any — and dine while they imbibe.
