Bacon, lettuce and tomato, also known as the BLT, is incredibly simple to make as well as delicious to eat. It's also kinda boring compared to all the exciting menu items in gastropubs and gourmet eateries. But this is Los Angeles, home to award-winning and celebrity chefs, thus the reinvention of the classic BLT is on the rise. Get ready to sink your teeth into flavored bacon, roasted tomatoes, seasoned mayo and a whole bunch of other good stuff. Check out these five places for the best BLT's.

If you thought the BLT could use a little more meat than just a couple slices of bacon, well, the chefs at Mendocino Farms agree with you. Slices of carved steak, applewood bacon, romaine lettuce, roasted tomatoes, herb aioli, red wine onions and blue cheese crumbles is what's piled between two slices of artisan bread making this a seriously good BLT. Pair it with any of the great sides like almond romesco shells or dijon mashed potatoes and you'll be smiling for days.

My Two Cents is where healthy California cuisine meets Southern-style cooking. The menu is an eclectic line up (pasta, fried chicken, oxtail tacos) with the fried green tomato BLT po' boy coming out on top. Stacked with more bacon imaginable and topped with fried green tomatoes. A flavor explosion of sweet and salty with the right about of crispy is why it's a customer favorite. Pair it with a side of "gries" (grits shaped like thick French fries, served with a spicy dipping sauce) and it's beyond perfect. It also has a veggie bacon option.

Modern Eats has complicated the BLT but in the best way ever. The menu offers several variations of this classic, and deciding which one may prove difficult. They have the Wild & Crazy with bacon, goat cheese, lettuce and on jalapeño bread; the Modern on sourdough with bacon, smoked mozzarella, lettuce and tomato; and the Plain & Simple with bacon, lettuce, tomato. All of them come with a sun dried tomato spread and a vegetarian option called the VLT!

There's only so much you can add to a BLT before it becomes a different sandwich all together. Sweetsalt keeps it simple with crispy applewood smoked bacon on a bed of lettuce and tomato. Throwing it on ciabatta bread with fresh avocado and goat cheese is just the right amount of change to make the ordinary exceptional. Keep in mind, this is a lunch menu item and is only served until 5 p.m.
