When it comes to a night on the town, women like to have just as much fun as the guys. Some nights, cheap drinks and good vibes are all it takes to have a great girls' night out. Other nights require getting dressed to the nines for a more sophisticated evening out with the ladies. But whatever your social needs, Los Angeles has the bars to suit. Check out these top five LA bars that are great for ladies.

Hollywood, CA 90028

Boardner's is one of those rare LA dive bars that is void of the ick factor most dive bars have and yet still divey enough to repel the Hollywood hipsters. And it just so happens this little gem just off the boulevard is a great hangout for the ladies. Women clientele rave about the affordable cocktails and courteous service they receive from the staff. Maybe it's because Boardner's has been around since 1942 and knows how to treat a lady.

Sometimes a gal wants to put on a great dress and go someplace nice for a few cocktails. The Edison is happy to accommodate. Located in the once forgotten sub-basement of the historic Higgins building, The Edison offers a luxurious surrounding with original industrial attributes that will complement a woman’s effort to be noticed. And cocktails like Black Magic, The Mistress and Dead Man's Hand are often great conversation starters.

Mexicali Cocina Cantina

Studio City, CA 91604

A hard-working woman is entitled to indulge in a few cocktails after work, but she doesn't want to spend half her paycheck in the process. Mexicali understands this and offers happy hour small plate appetizers for $3.95 and specialty margaritas and other cocktails for just over $5 between 4pm and 7pm. But there's more! There's a second happy hour from 11pm to 1am. No wonder the working gals love this place. Friendly staff and handsome bartenders are an added bonus.

Rainbow Bar & Grill

Los Angeles, CA 90069

For a brief (and regrettable) moment, 80s fashion was back in style. And when the trend ended, women everywhere were left with high-waisted acid wash jeans and sundry other 80s remakes. What would be considered unwearable by most is appropriate attire for GNO on a Saturday night at Hollywood's infamous Rainbow Bar & Grill. So dust off the suede fringe-trimmed boots and halter top and rub shoulders with former rock stars your mom used to love.

The Virgil

Los Angeles, CA 90029
(323) 660-4540

Some nights a girl has to ditch the significant other and get all of her frustrations out. The best way to do it is out on the dance floor and the best place to do it is at The Virgil. From 80s-based funk, boogie, electro, italo disco and different DJs on the weekend and free jukebox, you can easily find your groove. And unlike other dance clubs in LA, people actually dance at The Virgil. Most nights are no cover but check the calendar for upcoming events.
