Whittier (CBSLA) – A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy from the Pico Rivera station fatally shot a man in an unincorporated section of L.A. County near Whittier Sunday.

The shooting occurred just before 5 p.m. near the intersection of Obregon Street and Eduardo Avenue, according to L.A. County Sheriff’s Deputy Eva Jimenez.

The man died at the scene, Jimenez said. His age was not immediately released.

His name will be withheld pending notification of next of kin.

There was no immediate word on the events that led up to the deputy-involved shooting, Jimenez said, though a gun was recovered at the scene.
