The Dodger Stadium's team stores opened Thursday afternoon for the first time since the Dodgers won the World Series, selling merchandise commemorating their first title in 32 years.

Hundreds of cars were lined up outside the stadium, filled with excited fans, anxiously waiting to come in and get their hands on World Series apparel. The Top of the Park and Left Field Plaza stores are open from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Dylan Gonzales and his girlfriend Samantha Garcia said they spent about $400 to get their gear and believe it was money well spent.

Dylan said he wasn't even born when the Dodgers won the last World Series, but Karen Necessary was. She says it was "necessary" to be here with her son.

"This is my son, lifelong Dodgers fan, continuing the tradition," Necessary said. "I was starting to wonder if he was ever going to experience it like I did when I was 11, and it's pretty amazing."

Some fans said, while they could have bought their gear elsewhere, descending on Dodger Stadium was part of their celebration.

"We weren't allowed to come to the stadium for the games, at least we can come out here and come to the official store and be around all the other Dodger fans," Necessary said.

Those in line said they were limited to buying two World Series hats, so they picked up plenty of other items to commemorate L.A.'s big win.

"When it comes to Dodgers and Lakers, going all out this year," Terence Bautista said. "Especially with a year, how hard it's been. The two championships have really brought this city back to life."

On Wednesday morning, Dick's Sporting Goods stores across the region opened early with World Series gear, but quickly sold out.

Dodgers championship merchandise set a sales record for the first eight hours it was available on Fanatics, surpassing the Chicago Cubs, Lakers and Philadelphia Eagles immediately following their titles, according to Michael Rubin, chairman of the online retailer.

The Dodgers flew back to L.A. Wednesday from Texas, one day after defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 in Game 6 to clinch their first World Series since 1988. Fans lined Vin Scully Way Wednesday night to greet the Dodgers as they drove into the stadium parking lot.

However, not among them was third-baseman Justin Turner, whose positive diagnosis for COVID-19 came during the later innings of Game 6. Despite being pulled from the game, Turner returned to the field to celebrate the title, drawing the ire of Major League Baseball.

The Dodgers Wednesday said that an in-person World Series celebration will be held at an unspecified later date.

Beginning Friday, Dodger Stadium will also be serving as a voting center through to Election Day for voters looking to cast a ballot.
