Officials: LA County Deputy Accidentally Shoots Partner In The Leg

CARSON (CBSLA) – A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy was in stable condition after she was accidentally shot by her partner early Friday morning.

The sheriff's department confirmed that the accidental shooting occurred around 5:10 a.m. in the 1300 block of West Imperial Highway.

A female deputy and her male partner were preparing their patrol vehicle for their shift when a weapon was "unintentionally discharged," the sheriff's department said.

A deputy "unintentionally discharged his firearm" and shot his partner, who was sitting behind the steering wheel of the parked vehicle, according to Deputy Eric Ortiz of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

She was taken to Harbor UCLA Medical Center in West Carson by other deputies, the sheriff's department told CBSLA, and her vital signs were reported to be stable.

The identities of the two deputies has not been released.

The sheriff's department had initially incorrectly reported that the victim had accidentally shot herself in the leg.
