Memo: City Of LA May Be Preparing For Possible Layoffs Due To Pandemic

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — The city of Los Angeles is preparing for possible layoffs because of the pandemic.

A memo from Mayor Eric Garcetti told top managers to identify positions that could be eliminated in order to cut costs by three percent.

He also called on negotiators to work with employee unions on ways to save money. That may include postponing or eliminating previously approved pay raises.

Officials have warned the city's budget gap could run as high as $400 million.
