No Fans Allowed For Rams, Chargers Games At SoFi Stadium For 2020 Season

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) - Rams and Chargers fans will have to stay home this season.

The Rams, Chargers and SoFi Stadium announced Tuesday that Rams and Chargers games will be held without fans in attendance until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It wasn't clear how long the ban would be in place, but officials said if conditions improve and "we believe fans can safely attend games at SoFi Stadium, we will communicate the news at that time."

Chargers owner Dean Spanos called the news "heartbreaking", adding, "we are grateful for the opportunity to play NFL football this fall."

"We know our community, however, is still in the throes of a pandemic, and our only way out is to heed the guidance of state and local health officials and community leaders," Spanos said. "Every decision we have made – and every decision we will make in the future – begins and ends with the health and safety of our community, players, coaches and staff in mind."

Rams owner Stan Kroenke released a statement saying in part: "While we are doing everything to safely open SoFi Stadium and ultimately fulfill its promise to Rams fans, the NFL and to this region, we know our ability to welcome fans into the building will be guided by the wisdom of health care experts and the policies of local, state and federal government officials. Therefore, we won't speculate on any timeline as to when fans will be able to join us. The health and well-being of our employees, community and the nation, remains our highest concern."

While fans may not be able to watch games at SoFi in person, the venue is allowing Rams fans to purchase cardboard cutouts of themselves to help fill the stadium for the Sept. 13 home-opener against the Dallas Cowboys and other games.

Season ticket holders had the first chance to purchase cutouts for the Cowboys game at $70 each, with cutouts available to the general public for $80. Cutouts will be available for subsequent home games and placed on seats
before each game.
