Man Accidentally Shoots Self At Mass Gathering Involving More Than 100 People In Hollywood Hills

HOLLYWOOD HILLS (CBSLA) — Police say a man accidentally shot himself at a house party with more than 100 guests in the Hollywood Hills.

The party took place at a home on Miller Drive near Hedges Place on Saturday night.

Officers believe the home was rented out through Airbnb.

The homeowner told CBS2/KCAL9 that he wasn't aware the guests were going to throw a party.

Los Angeles Police Department officials were called to the scene at about 1 a.m. due to complaints about the crowd, which was a violation of the county's ban on large gatherings.

Officers found out about the shooting after they arrived.

"Everybody's having a good time and next thing you know, shots fired and everybody starts running, everyone running in different directions. Nobody knows what happened," said party guest Angel Ace.

A man admitted to shooting himself in the leg and was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, according to the LAPD.

Police said they didn't issue any citations and instead chose to educate party guests about physical distancing and wearing masks.
