ALHAMBRA (CBSLA) — Homicide investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were assisting the Alhambra Police Department after the body of an elderly woman was found Friday afternoon in Alhambra.

According to the sheriff’s department, Alhambra officers responded at about 12:28 p.m. to the area of a flood control channel near the Alhambra Golf Course in Almansor Park to do a welfare check on a woman near a rear access down.

When the officers arrived, they found an unconscious Asian woman alongside the flood control channel. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said they believe the victim might be a woman who was recently reported missing from San Gabriel, but said they would not release the victim’s name until she was positively identified and family members were notified.

The sheriff’s department said the woman’s cause of death was not immediately apparent and the investigation was ongoing.
