Mama & Baby Bear Captured After Wandering Residential Neighborhood In Castaic

CASTAIC (CBSLA) — Residents in Castaic were on alert Friday after a mother and baby bear were seen wandering in a residential neighborhood.

The bears were seen around 12 p.m. Friday rifling through trash cans as they navigated Sierra Oak Trail and made their rounds. On one occasion, mama bear was seen taking a dip in backyard pool.

LASD deputies were dispatched to the scene to monitor the bears' movement. Rangers from the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife later tranquilized the animals to enable their relocation.  At one point, however, a ranger was swarmed with bees, causing him to drop the baby bear.

Both bears were taken away unhurt.
