SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — The hunt was on Sunday for a hit-and-run driver who killed a bicyclist in South Los Angeles.

The bicyclist was on the road along Manchester around 9 p.m. when investigators say he was struck by a passing vehicle.

The driver of that vehicle did not stop.

The cyclist was declared dead on the scene. The identity of the deceased has not been released.

CBS2’s Joy Benedict reports that it’s the second fatal accident involving a bicyclist in the same neighborhood this month. And neighbors are understandably concerned.

“For me,” says Charles Brister, “I was hit three times by cars making a right turn.”

Brister lives near the crash scene and often rides his bike up and down Manchester.

He feels bad for the victim in the latest incident — described as a man in his late 20s. But Brister also can’t believe the driver didn’t stop.

“Had he stopped, he might have been able to call authorities and get somebody over here, and help save this man’s life,” Brister says.

Two weeks ago, about two miles away, another cyclist was killed.

“Didn’t have a chance. Didn’t make it to the hospital. He was dead right here,” said the victim’s sister, Sharon Findley.

Her brother, James Findley, was killed on Broadway when a car came speeding by.

Neighbors say something needs to change. Many said Manchester needs bike lanes.

“There’s not really enough space between the parked cars and the cars driving in the lane next to the parked cars,” Brister said.

For many, driving is a bike because many can’t afford to keep and maintain a car.

As a cyclists myself, this story and the many others are so sad and senseless.

I would highly encourage all bicyclists (motorists too) out there to go to the below CyclingSavvy link to learn of strategies on how to avoid or at least reduce the common conflicts and hazards with motor vehicles and other roadway users! They have both online and in-person courses, as well as other great resources! It’s time well spend!

    Be safe out there everyone!
