THOUSAND OAKS (CBSLA) — The niece of actress Tamera Mowry is among the 12 people killed by a gunman in a mass shooting at a Thousand Oaks bar Wednesday night.
In a statement, Tamara Mowry and her husband, Adam Housley, revealed that their niece, Alaina Housley, had died in the shooting at the Borderline Bar & Grill. Alaina was a freshman at Pepperdine University.READ MORE: Exposition Park Museums To Continue Requiring Face Masks
“Our hearts are broken,” the statement read. “We just learned that our niece Alaina was one of the victims of last night’s shooting at Borderline bar in Thousand Oaks. Alaina was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her and we are devastated that her life was cut short in this manner. We thank everyone for your prayers and ask for privacy at this time.”
Pepperdine’s student newspaper, the Pepperdine Graphic, reported that Alaina was a freshman who was majoring in English.
Alaina Housley’s roommate had posted images of her on Twitter, saying she was still missing following the shooting.
The tweet drew a plea from the actress, who asked Ashley to send her a direct message her. In a heart-rending exchange, Ashley said she has already been in contact with Elena’s uncle, former Fox News correspondent Adam Housley, but that there was no news yet about her whereabouts.
Ashley said that all the other girls she and Alaina were with were accounted for.READ MORE: Fire Danger Level In Angeles National Forest Raised To 'Very High' A Month Early
Alaina’s Apple Watch pinged from inside the club, and her aunt said they had not heard from her for seven hours. In an awful twist, Adam Housley was one of the reporters on the ground who covered the 2015 San Bernardino shooting, according to CBS2’s Peter Daut.
Tia Mowry, who starred with her twin in the TV show “Sister Sister,” posted an image of a young Alaina between the two Mowry sisters at one of their weddings.
“Alaina Housely we are praying. We love u!” she wrote.MORE NEWS: Long Beach To Enforce Ban On Flavored Tobacco In August; Los Angeles Considers Similar Ordinance
