One Seriously Hurt When Pickup Truck Strikes Food Vendor In Boyle Heights

BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBSLA) — Authorities say one person suffered serious injuries after a pickup truck struck pedestrians in the Boyle Heights area.

The crash was reported just after 11 a.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of E. Olympic Boulevard.

It was there that authorities say a truck struck a food vendor stand.

Family members were emotional when they came to clean up the Los Dos Gallos taco stand after seeing the damage to the family business.

Johanna Ramirez was across the street at Starbucks when the truck careened onto the sidewalk. She took video of the aftermath.

"I hear this loud bang," said Ramirez. "Like he was coming pretty fast and I just grabbed my coffee. I came over hear and I started recording and that's when I seen people like on the floor. A huge commotion."

The driver of the red truck's son said the brakes on his dad's truck went out. He swerved and hit a Volkswagen before losing control and landing on the sidewalk.

The LAPD says one person was wedged under the truck and suffered serious injuries.

The LAPD says several other people were hurt from flying debris but none of them needed to go to the hospital.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
